Damià Gomis Bosch

Damià Gomis Bosch is a Professor of Earth Physics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he has been a faculty member since 1993. He is affiliated with the Department of Physics and is also associated with IMEDEA (Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies), a joint center between UIB and CSIC. Since 2011, he has held the position of full professor in Earth Physics.

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor's degree in Physics from UIB (1986) with an extraordinary final award
• PhD in Physics from UIB (1990) with an extraordinary doctoral award
• Postdoctoral stay at the University of Reading, England

Gomis Bosch's research primarily focuses on sea level variability and marine climate change. His work spans from the physical basis of climate change to its environmental and socioeconomic impacts on coastal regions. He directs the Sea Level and Climate research group (http://marine-climate.uib.es/) and the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change (LINCC-UIB) (http://lincc.uib.eu/). His research has evolved from objective spatial analysis of oceanographic data to contemporary studies on climate change impacts, particularly sea level rise and extreme weather events.

His research output includes over 100 publications and approximately 275 conference presentations, resulting from participation in 17 national projects (as Principal Investigator for 7), around 30 special projects (PI for 15), and 13 European projects (PI for 3).

In his academic career spanning over 30 years, Gomis Bosch has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Physics. He currently teaches General Physics I, Classical Mechanics, Climate and Climate Change, and Fundamentals of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography. He has supervised six doctoral theses and served as Director of the Academic Committee of the Physics Doctoral Program at UIB from 2013 to 2018.

As founder and director of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change (LINCC-UIB) since 2017, he leads knowledge transfer and dissemination activities. Under his direction, UIB achieved observer status in the UNFCCC in 2018, enabling LINCC-UIB to participate in UN climate summits. The laboratory is also part of the European Secretariat for Clean Energy for EU Islands under the Climate Alliance.
