He specializes in Barrett’s Oesophagus and Oesophageal Carcinoma research, with a focus on molecular mechanisms and clinical progression. He co-leads undergraduate medical education for the C Theme and serves as Training Programme Director for Pathology in Northern Ireland.
His research explores the transition from Barrett’s Oesophagus to adenocarcinoma, biomarkers for early detection, and immune responses to neoadjuvant therapies. Key collaborations include the Oesophageal Cancer Clinical and Molecular Stratification (OCCAMS) consortium. Recent publications address gene losses in esophageal cancer evolution, infectious agents in carcinogenesis, and immune microenvironment dynamics in clinical trials.
McManus has contributed to the All-Ireland Cancer Network (All CaN) initiative in oesophageal cancer research.
