Damani Baker is a tenured professor at Sarah Lawrence College, where he teaches Filmmaking and Moving Image Arts. With a 20-year directing career spanning documentaries, museum exhibits, music videos, and advertising, he combines personal storytelling with historical narratives, notably explored in his critically acclaimed films The House on Coco Road and Still Bill. His work has been distributed globally via platforms like Netflix, Showtime, and BBC, and he has collaborated with Ralph Appelbaum Associates on museum films featuring figures such as President Bill Clinton and Kofi Annan.

Baker’s research interests intersect documentary filmmaking, social justice, and music as liberation. His projects, such as The House on Coco Road, explore migration and the Grenada Revolution through archival materials and personal stories, while Still Bill examines the legacy of Bill Withers. He emphasizes teaching filmmaking to diverse students, ensuring marginalized communities’ stories are told with dignity.
Upcoming projects include a series for MAX Network and a feature documentary mapping global connections within the African diaspora. Baker is also on leave during the 2025–26 academic period.
