معرفی
W. Ian Lipkin is the John Snow Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and Director of the Center for Infection and Immunity (CII). Known as the “master virus hunter,” he has discovered over 2,500 microbes and pioneered tools for microbial discovery and infectious disease diagnosis. His work focuses on advancing public health through innovative technologies for pathogen detection and surveillance.
Research Interests: Lipkin’s research emphasizes microbial genomics, high-throughput diagnostics, and global health surveillance. His teams develop cutting-edge methods to identify novel pathogens, track disease outbreaks, and improve pandemic preparedness. Key areas include viral zoonoses, neuroinvasive infections, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
Awards:
- 2024 National Academy of Inventors Fellow (recognizing contributions to infectious disease technologies)
Advising & Labs: Leads the Center for Infection and Immunity, a global hub for pathogen research. Collaborates extensively with academic, governmental, and industry partners on outbreak investigations and diagnostic tool development.
