Gillian Adler is the Esther Raushenbush Chair in Humanities and Literature at Sarah Lawrence College. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles (2022), an MA from the University of York (UK), and a BA from Barnard College. Her research focuses on medieval literature, timekeeping, and mystical writings. Currently on leave during the 2025-26 academic year, she remains active in academic publishing and leadership roles.
Adler’s work spans Chaucer, Dante, and Old English literature. Her recent publications include ‘Alle Thyng Hath Tyme’: Time and Medieval Life (2023) and Chaucer and the Ethics of Time (2022). She is editing The Bloomsbury Cultural History of Time in the Middle Ages and serves as president of the New York Medieval Society.
Her courses include Allegory in the Middle Ages, Animals and Animality in Medieval Literature, and Time in Literature and Philosophy.
