Associate Professor Dale Howes is affiliated with the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health, at the University of Sydney. Previously, he served as Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Rehabilitation at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. His expertise spans translational research in implant dentistry, head and neck rehabilitation, and advanced digital technologies in craniofacial reconstruction. He has developed innovative implant protocols and products addressing complex cases, including those involving head and neck trauma and cancer.
- Research Interests: Functional head and neck rehabilitation, maxillofacial prosthetics, dental implant protocols, occlusion and biomechanics, and digital technologies in craniofacial reconstruction.
- Awards: Premier Award of the South African Dental Association (2016), I.Y. Sendulskogo Commemorative Medal (2015), and best presentation awards at international congresses (2005, 2008).
- Teaching: Leads postgraduate prosthodontics curriculum development at the University of Sydney and reviews programs internationally. Engages in clinical supervision and extended teaching platforms in maxillofacial rehabilitation.
His research focuses on reducing treatment time and costs through subcrestal angle correction in implant dentistry, alongside improving quality of life for patients with maxillofacial defects. He actively collaborates globally, delivering keynotes at conferences such as the Academy of Osseointegration and the International Society for Maxillofacial Rehabilitation.
