Dr Daisy Powell is an Associate Professor at the University of Reading's Institute of Education, serving as Director of the University of Reading Statistics Community of Practice and Theme co-Lead for Neuroscience and Cognition at the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM). Her research focuses on reading/writing development, bilingual literacy, environmental factors influencing literacy acquisition, and the role of technology in education. She leads the Child Development in Education module for MA Education students and contributes to teacher training programs.
Her funded projects include investigations into bilingualism's impact on literacy in socioeconomically disadvantaged children, school readiness interventions in deprived communities, and cross-linguistic literacy transfer in Malay-English bilinguals. Notable collaborations involve the Nuffield Foundation and British Academy.
