Daisie Hoitsma Young is a Full-Time Instructor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Alabama, located in Garland Hall. She teaches courses in painting and 2D design. Her academic background includes an MFA in painting and drawing from Ohio University and a BFA from the University of Texas at Tyler.
Her artistic research explores the transient nature of time and its intersection with physical and psychological shifts, often through visual narratives of changing landscapes and daily routines. Notable exhibitions include solo and group shows at institutions such as the Gadsden Museum of Art, Manifest Gallery, and the Meadows Gallery. Recent exhibitions (2019–2021) include Rhythm: a meditation on time, Joint Observations, and participation in juried shows like Visual Thinking: International Juried Drawing Exhibition.
Prior to her academic role, she served as gallery manager at Ground Floor Contemporary in Birmingham, Alabama (2016–2018). Her work has been featured nationally and internationally, including an online exhibition in Edinburgh, Scotland (2020). She maintains an active studio practice and contributes to the art community through curated projects like paired traces and convey/year.
