Daan van Soest is a Professor of Environmental and Behavioral Economics at Tilburg University, affiliated with the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM) and the Tilburg Sustainability Center. He holds editorial roles, including co-editor-in-chief of Resource and Energy Economics and associate editor of Environmental and Resource Economics. His research focuses on environmental policy effectiveness using behavioral insights and experimental methods, often collaborating with governments and international organizations like the World Bank.
Education: PhD in Economics from Groningen University (1998), MSc in Economics (cum laude) from Groningen University (1993). Prior roles include Professor at VU Amsterdam (2009–2013) and academic leadership roles at Tilburg, including Academic Director of the Tilburg Sustainability Center (2013–2020).
Research Interests: Environmental policy design, renewable resource management, behavioral aspects of sustainability, and development economics. Recent work includes studies on mobile payment impacts in Kenya, forest fire reduction in Burkina Faso, and mental accounting in humanitarian cash transfers.
