Reyer Gerlagh is a Full Professor of Economics at Tilburg University's Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), Department of Economics. He has held roles such as Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (2014) and served as Vice Dean of Research at TiSEM since 2021. Previously, he was a Chair in Environmental Economics at the University of Manchester (2006–2009) and held visiting positions at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (2006).
His research focuses on climate policies, green innovation, and the energy transition. Key interests include fossil-free transitions, circular economy strategies, and the impacts of shale gas on energy markets. He emphasizes the urgency of policy actions to accelerate sustainable transitions.
Recent publications analyze renewable energy cost reductions, carbon border taxes, and behavioral economics in climate policy. His work has been cited in Nature Climate Change and Economisch Statistische Berichten. He is affiliated with the Tilburg Sustainability Center and contributes to interdisciplinary research teams.
