Dr. Cynthia Ward is a Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she has been Chief of the Small Animal In-patient Medicine section since 2007. She holds dual degrees: a VMD (Veterinary Medical Doctorate) and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by residency training in small animal internal medicine and a reproductive endocrinology fellowship. Her research focuses on small animal endocrinology, particularly feline hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus in cats and dogs.
Dr. Ward has received prestigious teaching awards including the Alumni Teaching Award (2003), Norden Distinguished Teaching Award (2000, 2009), and National SCAVMA Teaching Award (2009). She has authored/co-authored over 80 publications, including 43 journal articles and 11 book chapters, with a strong emphasis on clinical and basic endocrinology. Her work bridges veterinary clinical practice and scientific research, contributing to advancements in diagnosing and managing endocrine disorders in companion animals.
Her academic career includes faculty positions at the University of Pennsylvania until 2005 before joining the University of Georgia. She is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Small Animal Internal Medicine). Her research program explores molecular mechanisms of thyroid disorders, glucose monitoring innovations, and therapeutic interventions for endocrine diseases in animals.
