Cynthia A. Callahan is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University's Mansfield campus. She specializes in American and multi-ethnic literatures, with a focus on adoption studies, African American literature, and racial identity. Her research explores adoptive kinship and its intersections with race and national identity in American literature. She earned her PhD from the University of Delaware (2004) and BA from Rutgers University (Douglass College, 1994).

Her book Kin of Another Kind: Transracial Adoption in American Literature (2011) analyzes how adoptive kinship shapes racial and national narratives.
