Curtis A. Deutsch is a Professor of Geosciences and the High Meadows Environmental Institute at Princeton University. He leads the Deutsch Research Group, focusing on climate science, paleoclimate, and oceanography. His work examines biogeochemical cycles, climate system interactions, and the physiological adaptation of marine species to environmental change. Key research areas include the oceanic nitrogen cycle and responses of ocean circulation and carbon cycling to climate shifts.
Deutsch serves as Principal Investigator for the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations (SOCCOM) project. His research integrates field observations, modeling, and laboratory studies to address critical environmental challenges such as ocean hypoxia, coral community resilience, and the impacts of eutrophication. Notable contributions include studies on hypoxia traits in marine species and the ecological consequences of climate-driven ocean changes. He actively advises graduate students and collaborates internationally.
His recent work has been featured in prominent journals like Scientific Reports and Global Change Biology, with findings highlighted in media discussions on ocean heatwaves, marine biodiversity loss, and sustainability initiatives. Deutsch holds an ORCID ID (0000-0003-3923-0797) and is affiliated with Princeton’s Guyot Hall laboratories.
