Lauren Juranek is a Professor at Oregon State University, specializing in dissolved gases, isotope biogeochemistry, and marine carbon cycle dynamics. Her research focuses on Arctic Ocean biogeochemistry, the marine biological pump, and the impacts of climate change on ocean systems. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Biology from UC Davis (1999), an M.S. (2003) and Ph.D. (2007) in Chemical Oceanography from the University of Washington, followed by a NOAA postdoctoral fellowship (2007–2009).
Her work integrates field observations and modeling, addressing topics like Arctic CO₂ uptake, phytoplankton productivity, and nutrient dynamics. Key projects include SCOPE-Gradients, SOCCOM, and studies of Arctic transition zones. She teaches courses on biogeochemical cycles and polar oceanography.
Dr. Juranek leads the Gas Biogeochemistry Lab and collaborates on initiatives such as the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Modeling (SOCCOM). Her research highlights the importance of subsurface productivity and the role of dissolved gases in understanding marine carbon cycling.
