Dr. Cristina L.H. Traina is the Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J. Chair of Catholic Theology at Fordham University, within the Department of Theology in the College of Arts and Sciences. She previously served as Professor of Religious Studies and former chair of the department at Northwestern University, establishing a distinguished career in theological ethics.
Her research focuses on feminist theological ethics, particularly the intersections of gender, sexuality, childhood, and moral theology. She critically engages natural law, the ethics of unequal relationships, and human finitude, contributing to both academic and public discourse through scholarly books and accessible writings.
Her recent and forthcoming publications reflect a deep engagement with feminist philosophy, embodiment, and interfaith perspectives, particularly in Catholic and Orthodox traditions. These works explore themes such as parental sensuality, mortality, sanctity, and the moral implications of power differentials.
Dr. Traina has held significant leadership roles in professional societies, including the Society of Christian Ethics and the Catholic Theological Society of America. She currently leads the Consultation on Sexual Abuse in the Church and has contributed to national surveys on faculty conditions in theology and religious studies.
She is also an active public theologian, writing for Bondings 2.0 and engaging in ecumenical dialogue, especially on LGBTQ+ inclusion in Orthodox and Catholic contexts. Her work bridges academic rigor with pastoral and ethical concern for justice and inclusion.
