Professor Craig Lambert is a historian specializing in late medieval and early modern maritime history at the University of Southampton. He is affiliated with the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture (CMRC) and the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute. His research focuses on naval logistics, medieval and Tudor maritime communities, and merchant shipping. He leads major grants, including a £1 million AHRC-funded project on English merchant shipping from 1588 to 1765 and a £180,000 study of Kent’s maritime history. Lambert teaches courses such as 'Age of Discovery? 1350-1650' and 'The Hundred Years War.' He supervises PhD students, including Daniel Wigmore, and has developed databases like the Medieval and Tudor Ships project. His work bridges quantitative methodologies with historical narratives, offering new insights into England’s maritime rise.
