Professor Craig Hutton is a leading academic in environmental sustainability and resilience at the University of Southampton, serving as Director of the Sustainability & Resilience Institute (SRI). His work focuses on socio-environmental systems in deltaic regions, climate adaptation strategies, and integrated decision support frameworks. With 25+ years of expertise, he collaborates with governments and international organizations like UNESCO and UNICEF on projects such as Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 and the Child Climate Risk Index.
Current research emphasizes spatially explicit livelihood frameworks, coastal engineering impact assessment, and solar energy adoption barriers in rural areas. He leads interdisciplinary teams across multiple funded projects, including the WAVES mollusc aquaculture initiative and the Food Aid Inequality Rectified consortium.
Professor Hutton has supervised over 6 PhD students and authored influential papers on wellbeing metrics in vulnerable delta regions, renewable energy economics, and strategic spatial planning in the Mekong Delta. His work bridges policy, community engagement, and technical modeling to address global sustainability challenges.
