Andrew Harfoot is a Senior Enterprise Fellow at GeoData Southampton, part of the University of Southampton. His work focuses on geodemographics, spatial analysis, and the application of geospatial methodologies to public health, urban planning, and socio-economic policy. He has contributed to projects involving census data frameworks, workplace zone classifications, and sustainable development goal analysis in deltaic systems.
Key research projects include developing national geodemographic classifications for workplace zones and creating methodologies for maintaining census output geographies. He collaborated with the Sultanate of Oman on social indicator databases and conducted poverty mapping assessments for the FAO in Southeast Asia. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in policy and planning.
Main research themes include spatial demography, geographic data infrastructure, and the integration of geospatial techniques in public health and urban systems. Recent publications emphasize synergies in SDG implementation within delta ecosystems and mobility pattern analysis through origin-destination geodemographics.
Notable collaborations include work with Professors Sabu Padmadas and Craig Hutton, and contributions to projects funded by international organizations like the FAO. He maintains active involvement in GeoData Southampton's research initiatives and has advised on census methodology improvements for official statistics.
