Craig Hanson serves as Professor of Art History and Associate Director of the Calvin Honors and Collegiate Scholars Programs at Calvin University, with appointments in the Department of Art and Design and Honors Program.

Hanson's research examines intersections of art, medicine, and antiquarianism (1600-1800), rhinoceros reception in early modern Europe, and European interpretations of Chinese architecture. His work centers on collecting practices, patronage networks, national identity formation, art-fashion relationships, and evolving historical taste. He actively engages with public history through his docent role at Frank Lloyd Wright's Sophie and Meyer May house, specializing in Prairie style architecture interpretation.
Professional leadership includes presidency of the Historians of British Art (2015-17), founding editorship of Enfilade (a high-traffic digital newsletter for eighteenth-century scholars), and editorial roles for J18 and caa.reviews.
