Craig Evans is the John Bisagno Distinguished Professor of Christian Origins at Houston Christian University, affiliated with the School of Christian Thought's Theology department. He holds a DHabil in Theology from Károli Gáspár Református University, a PhD in Biblical Studies from Claremont Graduate University, and degrees from Western Baptist Seminary and Claremont McKenna College.
His teaching focuses on New Testament and its backgrounds, including courses on the Gospels, Pauline Letters, Acts, Dead Sea Scrolls, and Early Judaism. Evans’ research interests span New Testament archaeology, early Christian origins, and Jewish literature of the Second Temple period.
With over 600 scholarly publications and 70 authored books, he has contributed to journals like Bulletin for Biblical Research, where he served as editor-in-chief. His awards include the 2006 Acadia Alumni Award and 2007 Crandall Leadership Award. Prior to HCU, he held roles at Trinity Western University, Acadia University, and McMaster University.
Evans is a member of the Society of New Testament Studies and Society of Biblical Literature. His academic work bridges historical criticism and theological reflection, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to biblical studies.
