Courtney A Humm

Courtney A Humm (she/her/hers) is an Instructor in Education and Director of Social Studies Education at St. Olaf College. Since 2017, she has taught foundational courses in education and led the Schools and Urban Communities program annually during J-term.

• Education: B.A. in Social Studies Education from St. Olaf College; M.Ed. in Learning and Teaching from Harvard Graduate School of Education

Research Interests: Focus on educational equity, culturally responsive-sustaining pedagogy, anti-racist teaching practices, and civic education, with an emphasis on fostering classroom community and urban educational initiatives.

Professional Background: Prior to St. Olaf, she taught social studies for a decade at Woodstock International School (Mussoorie, India) and Community of Peace Academy (St. Paul, Minnesota). Outside academia, she enjoys running, Wordle, reading, and spending time with family.
