Eugene V. Gallagher is the Rosemary Park Professor of Religious Studies at Connecticut College. He has taught courses on scripture, Western religious traditions, new religious movements, and theories of religion for decades. His research focuses on ancient Mediterranean religions and contemporary American new religious movements, including co-authorship of Why Waco? Cults and the Battle for Religious Freedom in America and the forthcoming New Bibles: Reading and Writing Scripture in New Religious Movements.
He contributes extensively to pedagogical discourse through the Wabash Center, where he serves as Associate Editor of Teaching Theology and Religion. His teaching emphasizes collaborative learning, anti-racist pedagogy, and engaged teaching methods, often integrating creative strategies and critical thinking. Outside academia, Gallagher enjoys spending time with his family in Mystic, CT, and engaging with water-based activities.
