Coral Murrant is a Professor and Chair at the University of Guelph's Human Biology Department, specializing in skeletal muscle metabolism, fatigue, and blood flow regulation. Her research explores intercellular communication between muscle cells and vascular endothelial/smooth muscle cells, with collaborations in reproductive physiology (spiral artery function in pregnancy) and comparative physiology (fish microcirculation). Funded by NSERC, she is a member of the American Physiological Society and Microcirculatory Society.
- Education:
- B.Sc., University of Guelph
- Ph.D., University of Guelph
Her work focuses on how skeletal muscle metabolic activity influences microvascular function, testing vasodilatory metabolites and their mechanisms. Collaborative projects include studying spiral artery dysfunction in pre-eclampsia and vascular adaptations in amphibious fish surviving out-of-water. She leads a large integrative physiology course for 440 students.
- Scientific Memberships:
- American Physiological Society
- Microcirculatory Society
Her research has been supported by NSERC and collaborative NSERC/CIHR grants. Graduate students advised include Charter (PhD) and Hyde-Lay (MSc).
