Professor Cyrus Cooper is a world-leading academic and clinician in musculoskeletal epidemiology, holding concurrent roles as Director of the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton and Professor of Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Oxford. He is also Vice-Dean of Southampton’s Faculty of Medicine and President of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). His work focuses on osteoporosis prevention, lifecourse epidemiology, and translating research into global healthcare policies.
Research interests include osteoporosis epidemiology, maternal vitamin D supplementation’s role in bone health, and musculoskeletal disease prevention in aging populations. He pioneered studies linking early-life factors to adult health outcomes, influencing WHO policies. Over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 213 reflect his prolific output.
