Professor Elaine Dennison is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Epidemiology and Honorary Consultant in Rheumatology at the University of Southampton. She is based at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre, focusing on musculoskeletal aging and the interplay between early-life events and adult lifestyle factors influencing aging processes. With over 450 journal articles, her research emphasizes osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and epidemiological studies of aging.
She has held leadership roles in clinical academic training, including Director of the Southampton Clinical Academic Training Scheme (2018–present), leader of the Southampton Academic Foundation Programme, and Training Programme Director for Wessex Rheumatology. She has served on national and international committees such as the National Osteoporosis Society Grants Committee, International Osteoporosis Foundation Scientific Advisers Committee, and Versus Arthritis Research Committee. She also chairs the NICE Osteoporosis Clinical Guideline committee and sits on editorial boards of journals like Osteoporosis International and Calcified Tissue International.
Her contributions span clinical, academic, and policy domains, with a focus on translating research into clinical guidelines and training future clinical academics.
