Colm O'Cinneide is a Professor of Human Rights Law at University College London (UCL), Faculty of Laws. His expertise spans constitutional law, human rights, and anti-discrimination frameworks. He holds degrees from University College Cork (Bachelor of Civil Law, 1994; Master of Laws, 1995) and a Master of Laws from the University of Edinburgh (1998).
His research focuses on policy administration, social work, sociology, and clinical sciences within legal contexts. He has advised UK parliamentary committees (Joint Committee on Human Rights, Women & Equalities Committee) and international bodies like the UN, ILO, and European Commission. From 2006–2016, he served on the European Committee on Social Rights (Council of Europe), including as Vice-President (2010–2014). He is also a member of Blackstone Chambers’ academic advisory board since 2008.
Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, his work addresses reducing inequalities, promoting justice, and advancing well-being. His contributions bridge legal scholarship with practical policy-making, emphasizing human rights advocacy globally.
