Dr. Colleen Metge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. She holds affiliations as a Research Scientist at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP), a Researcher at the Odette School of Business (University of Windsor) in supply chain management, and with the Women’s College Research Institute (de-prescribing). Her work focuses on health services and policy, population health, aging, and social determinants of health, employing mixed methods including big data analysis and pharmacoeconomics.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (1975)
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Policy with emphasis on Epidemiology and Economics (1990)
Research Interests: Dr. Metge’s research spans access to care, ethical/legal/social issues in health, health systems evaluation, health economics, and intervention studies. She has contributed to population-level analyses at MCHP, including pharmaceutical use in aging populations and mental health contexts. Her work emphasizes policy development, knowledge translation, and optimization of healthcare resource allocation.
Grants & Contributions: She has secured $20.2 million across 30 grants, including a $1.9 million CIHR grant for PATHS: Equity for Children. She has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on improving health equity and evidence-based policy.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies (CNODES) and led a research unit of 12 colleagues supporting Manitoba’s health authority until 2017.
