معرفی
Colin Hill is a Professor of Microbiology at the School of Microbiology, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. He leads research in bacteriophages, bacteriocins, and the microbiome's role in health and disease. He is a founding Principal Investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland, a multidisciplinary institute focusing on gut microbiota research. His work spans molecular mechanisms of infection, antimicrobial strategies, and translational microbiology.
- Affiliations: SFI Principal Investigator (since 2002), APC Microbiome Ireland PI, Past President of ISAPP (2012–2015).
- Education: Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology.
Research interests include developing bacteriophage-based therapies, bacteriocin engineering, and understanding microbiome interactions. His lab has produced over 600 peer-reviewed papers and 18 patents, with an H-index of 100 (ISI) and 135 (Google Scholar).
Key achievements include the Metchnikoff Prize (2010) and election to the Royal Irish Academy and American Academy of Microbiology. His work on postbiotics and probiotics has shaped international consensus statements on fermented foods and microbial intake.
Over 70 PhD students have graduated from his lab, and he has advised on grants and collaborations in APC Microbiome Ireland. Current projects focus on phage therapy, microbiome-based diagnostics, and interventions for Clostridioides difficile and inflammatory bowel disease.
