Clemens Leonhard is a Professor and currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Münster. His academic career includes roles as Prodekan für Finanzen (2016–2017) and Director of the Faculty’s administrative office (2007–2011). He leads research projects such as 'The Passover Haggadah: History of Text and Ritual' (A3-5) and has managed initiatives on liturgical identity and religious associations in antiquity.
His research focuses on comparative Jewish and Christian liturgies, early Christian practices, and Syrian Church liturgies. Notable works include studies on Pesach and Eucharist interrelations, liturgical origins, and ritual dynamics in antiquity. He actively contributes to academic discourse through editorial roles in journals like Forschungen zur Kirchen- und Dogmengeschichte.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on liturgical history, ritual theory, and interfaith practices. He advises doctoral students and collaborates on projects blending theology, history, and cultural studies. His work bridges ancient liturgical traditions with modern theological and pastoral challenges.
