Revd Dr Uwe Michael Lang is a Senior Lecturer in Liturgy and Church History at St Mary’s University and Allen Hall Seminary, London. He holds a doctorate in theology from the University of Oxford and is a priest of the Oratory of St Philip Neri in London. His roles include associate staff at the Maryvale Institute, Birmingham, and membership in academic councils like the Henry Bradshaw Society and the Society for Catholic Liturgy. He also serves as editor of Antiphon: A Journal for Liturgical Renewal.
His research focuses on liturgical studies with a historical emphasis, exploring ritual, sacred architecture, art, and music. Previously, he worked at the Congregation for Divine Worship in Rome (2008–2012) and lectured at Heythrop College, University of London (2012–2018). He has authored and edited numerous books on liturgical history, including The Roman Mass: From Early Christian Origins to Tridentine Reform (2022) and A Short History of the Roman Mass (2024). His articles address topics like Eucharistic theology, liturgical veneration, and the thought of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI.
Dr Lang’s academic contributions span liturgical renewal, historical theology, and the intersection of art and worship. He emphasizes the importance of liturgical language, music, and architecture in expressing sacred transcendence. His editorship of Antiphon reflects his commitment to scholarly discourse on liturgical practices and their theological foundations.
