معرفی
Clayton Piehl is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry Instruction at Hope College, where he coordinates first-year chemistry labs, ensuring consistency across sections, oversees student workers preparing equipment and chemicals, and leads three lab sections per semester in General Chemistry 1/2 and Introduction to Biological Chemistry.
Education:
- M.S. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (2020)
- M.A. in STEM Education from the University of Texas at Austin (2015)
- B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin (2009)
Research Interests: Clayton's work combines biochemistry and metabolic modeling of E. coli genomes within environmental contexts, focusing on the Holland watershed. He collaborates on faculty-student research through Hope’s Global Water Research Institute to analyze genomic diversity patterns and refine metabolic modeling by comparing computational predictions with wet lab results. His teaching philosophy emphasizes real-world applications and curriculum innovation to enhance secondary and higher education in chemistry.
Collaborations & Labs: He partners with Aaron Best (Hope College) and Argonne National Lab in Chicago for the Lake Macatawa watershed assessment. This project integrates environmental justice themes with biochemical analysis and educational curriculum design.
