Claudia Bornholdt serves as Dean of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University (CCU), appointed in July 2019. Previously, she held roles at the Catholic University of America (CUA), including Acting Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages Chair, and Endowed Walburg Chair of German Language and Literature. She earned her Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literatures, Medieval Studies, and Historical Linguistics from Indiana University-Bloomington, with additional degrees from Bowling Green State University and Christian-Albrechts Universität in Kiel, Germany.
Her research focuses on medieval German, Scandinavian, French, and Latin literature, emphasizing early vernacular writing and cross-cultural literary exchanges. Bornholdt brings an international perspective, with family ties spanning Norway, Germany, and the U.S., and has conducted research across multiple continents. She prioritizes interdisciplinary programs, campus unity, diversity, and community engagement during her tenure at CCU.
