Mareike Herrmann is Professor and Department Chair of German and Russian Studies at the College of Wooster. She holds a B.A. from Kenyon College (1986), M.A. from Bowling Green State University (1989), and Ph.D. from University of Massachusetts Amherst (1995). As a native of Northern Germany, her academic journey includes studies at Christian-Albrechts Universität in Kiel.
Her research focuses on 19th/20th-century German literature, film, cultural studies, and women's studies. Specific interests include representations of exile (Heinrich Heine, Frederic Chopin), German youth culture in magazines, post-unification cinema, American cultural influences in postwar Germany, and cinematic adaptations by directors like Doris Dörrie and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
She teaches German language (all levels), literature, film, and women's studies courses.
