معرفی
Claude Gontran is a Researcher at the University of Rouen Normandy, affiliated with the UFR Letters and Human Sciences. He holds dual doctorates: one in Ancient Greek (2006) and another in Philosophy (2020). His work focuses on Ancient Greek tragedy, particularly Sophocles, and the materialist philosophy of Epicurus. Born in 1955, he contributes to the ERIAC research unit (UR 4705), exploring themes like language in civic contexts, practical ethics, and classical antiquity’s intellectual legacy.
His research integrates interdisciplinary approaches, examining how Sophocles’ plays interrogate identity, language, and civic responsibility, while his studies on Epicurus emphasize practical applications of materialism and the theory of friendship. He has authored monographs and contributed to peer-reviewed volumes, including analyses of Tiresias’ role in Oedipus the King and the dramaturgy of counsel in Philoctetes.
Gontran’s blog Epicurean debates on Hypotheses.blog critiques interpretations of Epicurus, prioritizing his original texts over later adaptations. His work bridges classical thought with modern philosophical inquiry, emphasizing textual fidelity and practical philosophical foundations.
