Clare Monagle is a Professor in the School of Humanities at Macquarie University. She holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University (2007) and previously worked at Monash University (2007–2014). Her research focuses on medieval intellectual history, particularly gendered categories in scholastic thought (1150–1520) and the 'medievalism' shaping modern discourses on progress and modernity. Key projects include 'Sexing Scholasticism: Gender in Medieval Thought 1150–1520' (2014–2018) and 'Christian Consciousness Raising: Magdalene Journal and Australian Feminism' (2020–2021). Her work bridges medieval and contemporary thought, addressing themes like civil religion, environmental ethics, and feminist historiography. Media contributions include analyses on medievalism in climate debates and modern politics. She has published widely across journals, edited volumes, and monographs, with a focus on theologians like John of Salisbury and Duns Scotus.
