Clara Fischer is a Vice-Chancellor Illuminate Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics, specializing in feminist theory, political theory, and gender studies. She holds a Research Fellow appointment and actively supervises PhD students in these disciplines.
Her research focuses on feminist-pragmatism, emotion/affect theory, and the intersection of gender with institutionalization, austerity, and nationalism. Notable works include Gendered Readings of Change (2014) and co-edited volumes such as New Feminist Perspectives on Embodiment (2018). She co-founded the ÆRN: Affect & Emotion Research Network (2024).
Dr. Fischer has received prestigious fellowships from the British Academy and EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie programs. Her awards include the Lydia M. Child and Ida B. Wells Award for Public Philosophy (2017). She has advocated for equality through roles in civil society, including the Equality Budgeting Campaign and Irish Feminist Network.
Her recent publications (2019–2024) explore Ireland’s gender politics, shame’s role in societal structures, and feminist reimaginings of public spheres. She serves on editorial boards for Feminist Encounters and Hypatia, and has organized interdisciplinary conferences linking pragmatism to contemporary political challenges.
Grants include the EU Horizon2020-funded GENDEMOTION project and multiple fellowships supporting her work on gendered emotion in austerity contexts.
