Claire Brunel is a Professor at American University's School of International Service (SIS), where she teaches courses in International Economics and Environmental Economics.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Economics from Georgetown University
- MPhil in Economics from University of Oxford
- BSc in Mathematics and Economics from Georgetown University
Professor Brunel's research focuses on the intersection of environmental economics and international economics. Her work examines how climate change and environmental regulations create cross-border effects, including industrial relocation, green technology transfer, and human migration. She is particularly interested in the economic consequences of environmental policies across national borders and how these policies influence international economic relationships.
Prior to joining American University, Professor Brunel held significant positions at the Research Department of the World Bank, the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and served as a Trade Policy Attaché at the Embassy of France. Her multilingual abilities in French, English, and Spanish enhance her capacity to conduct international research and collaborate across borders.
Professor Brunel teaches several courses including International Economics (SIS-616) and Introduction to Environmental Economics (SIS-652), with these courses scheduled through Fall 2025.
