Tazreena Sajjad is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Peace, Human Rights, and Cultural Relations at American University's School of International Service (SIS). Her expertise spans transitional justice, refugees, and gender in conflict contexts. She holds a PhD from AU's SIS and has extensive field experience with organizations like the International Rescue Committee and Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit.
Dr. Sajjad has received accolades including the 2020 SIS William Cromwell Teaching Award and a 2022 AIBS Senior Fellowship. Her research focuses on refugee reception policies in the Global South, EU border regimes, and displacement crises in Afghanistan and Bangladesh. She advises the Refugee Solidarity Network and co-leads AU's No Lost Generation Initiative.
Her work bridges academia and policy, with grants including a 2021 AU Pilot Grant on Afghan refugee integration. She frequently engages media outlets like Al-Jazeera, Deutsche Welle, and The Washington Post to discuss global refugee challenges and geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.
