Dr. Cillian McGrattan is a Lecturer in the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences at Ulster University, based at the Belfast campus. He previously taught at Swansea University and the University of the West of Scotland. His academic background includes a PhD from Ulster University (2008) and a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at University College Dublin's Institute for British-Irish Studies.
His research focuses on conflict studies, political violence, peacebuilding, and transitional justice in Northern Ireland. Key works include Northern Ireland, 1968-2008: The Politics of Entrenchment (2010) and The Politics of Trauma and Peacebuilding: Lessons from Northern Ireland (2016). He has also co-edited influential volumes such as Sunningdale and the Ulster Workers’ Council Strike (2017).
Publications span over 20 journal articles in outlets like Political Studies and Terrorism and Political Violence, addressing themes such as memory politics, sectarianism, and post-conflict reconciliation. Current research explores the Northern Ireland protocol's political implications and the legacy of the Troubles.
