Chuck Dotas is a Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at James Madison University (JMU), leading the JMU Jazz Ensemble. He also serves as Coordinator for the JMU Office of International Programs' Summer Study Abroad jazz residency, "The Arts and Culture of Montreal."
Education:

- Doctorate from University of Northern Colorado
Research & Professional Activities: Active as a commissioned composer and clinician in the U.S., with works published by UNC Jazz Press, Walrus Music, and ejazzlines. His compositions have been performed globally, including in Germany, Taiwan, New Zealand, and South Africa. Former roles include Jazz Studies faculty at McGill University and six years in Wisconsin public schools.
Key Roles: Former Composer-in-Residence at Staunton Music Festival (2005–2015). Coordinates international jazz education programs and maintains a focus on bridging music composition with cultural exchange.
