Christos Aliprantis, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences, Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT). He also holds a postdoctoral researcher position at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany, and is an Early Career Fellow in Philhellenism at the Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University. His work focuses on the history of policing, security, and migration in modern Europe and Greece. He has been awarded prestigious fellowships including a Fulbright Grant and a Princeton University Visiting Research Fellowship.
Aliprantis earned his PhD in History from the University of Cambridge (2020). He previously held postdoctoral positions at the European University Institute in Florence, Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, and the University of Athens. His research has been supported by grants from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Tsagadas Trust) and New Europe College in Bucharest.
His research interests encompass transnational policing in 19th-century Europe, Greek-American police relations during the Cold War, and the social history of Greek security forces. He has published extensively on topics such as political policing in the Habsburg Empire, exile and migration of political refugees, and the origins of transnational security frameworks.
Aliprantis has received multiple awards, including the Princeton fellowship, a Fulbright Grant, and the Early Career Fellowship in Philhellenism. His recent projects include a study on US-Greek police relations (1940s-1970s) and a research group investigating Greek police forces from 1944 to 1990.
He has mentored high school students in Greece through partnerships with the Onassis Foundation and The Tipping Point NGO, focusing on career guidance and soft skills development.
