Dr. Christopher Zdyrski is a Researcher at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), contributing to the SMART Comparative Medicine Laboratory and SMART Pharmacology Lab. He also serves as Director of Research and Product Development at 3D Health Solutions, Inc., focusing on commercializing organoid-based drug screening assays. His primary affiliation is with UGA’s CVM, where his work emphasizes canine stem cell-derived organoids and their application in reducing reliance on live animal models in research.
Dr. Zdyrski holds a PhD in Genetics and Genomics from Iowa State University, with a focus on 3D organoid culture systems. His research interests span organoid development, stem cell biology, canine-specific genetic studies, and assay technologies for translational medicine. Key projects include modeling canine bladder cancer, avian influenza host interactions, and gastrointestinal health in dogs using organoid platforms.
His recent publications (2021-2025) highlight advancements in organoid-based disease modeling, including microfluidic platforms (OrganoidChip+), diet-induced disease models in canines, and comparative oncology studies linking canine and human bladder cancers. He also explores non-model species such as turtles and chickens, expanding the scope of organoid applications to wildlife and agricultural species.
Dr. Zdyrski’s work emphasizes the One Health initiative, leveraging canine models to accelerate human therapeutic development while improving veterinary care. His startup collaboration aims to translate academic research into commercial diagnostic tools and drug screening systems.
