Sara Galac

Dr. Sara Galac is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. She is a clinical endocrinologist and researcher dedicated to a One Medicine approach, bridging veterinary and human medicine in endocrine oncology. Her work focuses on adrenal and pituitary tumors in companion animals, leveraging these models to address gaps in rare human cancers.

• Graduated from the Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana, Slovenia
• PhD in Companion Animal Endocrinology (Utrecht University, 2010)

Research interests span endocrine oncology, in vitro organoid models, and alternatives to animal testing. She leads the Oncology research group OnGo, pioneering pituitary/adrenal organoids for high-throughput drug screening and tumor biology studies. Her work integrates comparative endocrinology, cancer biomarkers, and 3D tissue modeling.

Recent publications highlight advancements in canine pheochromocytoma and feline chronic kidney disease, with a focus on metabolomic profiling, drug efficacy, and diagnostic algorithms. Trends in her research emphasize cross-species tumor biology, novel therapeutic targets, and non-invasive biomarker development.
