Christopher Wickert is a Full Professor and Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where he also serves as Director of the VU Business & Society Knowledge Hub and Research Director of the Department of Management & Organization. He holds a PhD in Management from the University of Lausanne (2013) and an MSc in Business Administration from WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management (2008).
His research focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR), corporate sustainability, and the broader relationship between business and society. Key areas include CSR implementation in globally integrated companies, CSR standard diffusion, organizational identity’s role in CSR practices, and the 'talk-walk' mismatch in CSR. He has also explored CSR professionals’ intra-organizational advocacy, Critical Management Studies (CMS), philosophy of science, and social entrepreneurship.
Wickert has published in top journals like Journal of Management Studies, Business & Society, and Harvard Business Review. He currently serves as General Editor of the Journal of Management Studies and leads international projects funded by NWO-WOTRO, including initiatives in Uganda focused on agribusiness ethics, educational reforms, and ICT integration in value chains.
Academic contributions include a 2019 Cambridge University Press book on CSR and grants such as the NWO-WOTRO-funded AGRI-QUEST project (2015). Teaching spans graduate and PhD-level courses in business ethics, strategy, and CSR supervision.
