Christopher Small is a Lamont Research Professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (Columbia University) and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on geophysics, geodynamics, and remote sensing applications in environmental monitoring and urban studies. He holds a Ph.D. from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1993), an MA from the University of Texas at Austin (1989), and a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1985). His work explores spatiotemporal dynamics of landscapes, urbanization patterns, and Earth systems using advanced spectral and imaging techniques. Recent publications emphasize remote sensing advancements, climate-land interaction studies, and global urban scaling analyses. His research bridges geophysical methodologies with societal challenges like environmental conservation and disaster resilience.
