Christopher Murphy

Christopher Murphy is the Inglis Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Dalhousie University, located in Halifax, Canada. He holds a BA from St. Francis Xavier University, an MA from Dalhousie University, and a PhD from the University of Toronto.

His research focuses on the sociology of policing, security governance, social justice, and social policy. He has conducted studies on comparative police organizations, community-based policing, Aboriginal and Japanese policing, private security, and the impact of security policies on public policing. His work also addresses policing migration and immigrant communities in Canada.

Dr. Murphy teaches courses in Criminology, Sociology of Law, Police and Society, and Social Policy Research. His publications span academic journals, research reports, and book chapters, with notable works including comparative policing studies and analyses of global policing trends.

He actively contributes to interdisciplinary research within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, emphasizing critical engagement with contemporary issues in sociology and criminology.
