Christopher M. Kribs is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics (College of Science) and the Department of Curriculum & Instruction (College of Education) at The University of Texas at Arlington. He coordinates UTA's undergraduate and graduate programs in K-8 mathematics education and directs the graduate program in K-8 mathematics education developed in partnership with local school districts.
Dr. Kribs earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University where he double-majored in electrical engineering and mathematics. He completed his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1997 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, working with Fred Brauer on differential equations. His educational journey included electrical engineering graduate studies at Georgia Tech (including their campus in Metz, France), and a year teaching math and physics at a Native American boarding school in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Dr. Kribs's research spans mathematical biology and mathematics education. In mathematical biology, he uses dynamical systems to model disease spread within populations, with particular focus on vector-borne infections and environments with multiple circulating pathogens. His work on Chagas disease began during a 2003 sabbatical at Universidad de Colima in Mexico. In mathematics education, he investigates K-8 mathematics teaching and learning, analysis of students' mathematical thinking, and teachers' abilities to understand student cognition. He has developed innovative courses including the Math 1330-1332 sequence for pre-service elementary teachers focusing on number operations, geometry, and data modeling.
Dr. Kribs regularly teaches differential equations and linear algebra courses in the mathematics department, while in the College of Education he teaches math methods courses for prospective middle grades (EDML 4372) and elementary bilingual (BEEP 4311) teachers. He maintains extensive math education resources for teachers through his web presence and contributes to professional development initiatives for K-8 mathematics educators.

Outside his academic work, Dr. Kribs writes novels and poetry, draws, conducts genealogy research, and participates in Scottish Country Dancing. A Dallas native whose family has been in Texas for five generations, he is a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and graduated from Cistercian Prep School in Irving.
