He holds a doctorate from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and is a Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) from 2021-2026. His research focuses on the history of political thought (16th-18th centuries) and contemporary political philosophy, particularly republicanism, natural rights, and civic virtue. He has taught at institutions including the University of Quebec in Montreal and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. His work bridges historical analysis and normative political theory, emphasizing the interplay between rights and republican virtues.
Research interests center on the historical development of republican thought, including figures like John Milton, Algernon Sidney, and Denis Diderot. He critiques methodological approaches that separate historical context from normative philosophy. Publications include The Republican Spirit: Natural Rights and Civic Virtue in Algernon Sidney (2011) and translations of key texts like Richard Price’s Observations on the Nature of Civil Liberty (2023). His recent work explores republican critiques of physiocracy and the role of intellectual history in understanding freedom of expression.
Awards include the IUF Junior Membership, recognizing his contributions to interdisciplinary research. He co-organizes academic events such as the ANR EGALIBEX project on freedom of expression. Teaching responsibilities span political philosophy, methodology, and textual analysis at undergraduate and graduate levels.
His scholarship highlights the enduring relevance of early modern republican ideas for contemporary debates on civic engagement, rights, and democratic governance. Current projects examine republican influences in 18th-century France and the moral foundations of non-domination theories.
