Frank Lovett is Professor of Political Science and Philosophy (by courtesy) at Washington University in St. Louis, serving as Director of Legal Studies. He earned his PhD from Columbia University and completed postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health and Princeton University's University Center for Human Values.
His research examines political freedom, domination theories, and justice frameworks within civic republicanism. Core themes include:
- Arbitrary power and social justice relationships
- Institutional designs minimizing domination
- Republican conceptions of law and liberty
- Historical development of republican thought
His publications demonstrate consistent theoretical development of domination frameworks, with recent work expanding into cultural identity, economic applications, and Milton's political philosophy. The Oxford Handbook of Republicanism (2024) represents a comprehensive scholarly contribution.
