Thomas Albert Ashby is a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) Department of History, specializing in early modern political thought, particularly English republicanism and its global reception. He holds a PhD from EUI (2024) for his thesis on Algernon Sidney and serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Euronews Project. His affiliations include editorial roles at Global Intellectual History and co-organizing the Association for Global Political Thought.
- Education: PhD (EUI, 2024), MA in History of Political Thought (University of London, 2020), BA in History and Politics (Oxford).
His research spans Enlightenment studies, early English encounters with Japan, and historiography of intellectual history. Recent work explores Sidney’s Discourses in the context of European Enlightenment and global revolutionary movements. He has organized conferences on transnational political thought and John Pocock’s legacy.
